Playing Too Passively After the Flop

Problem:
On the flop, turn, and river, you are betting and raising too little.

Description:
You are calling too much on the flop and beyond. While check-calling and calling are valuable moves, there are more situations where betting or raising will show a higher profit. This also might indicate you are calling too often when you should be folding.

Cost:
$2.50 per hour in a $2/$5 No-Limit game

Recommendation:
Play 50 hands and practice being dealt raising hands. On the flop, you should be betting for value or continuation betting often. Otherwise, look to get out of the hand by folding. There will be fewer opportunities for calling and check-calling.

Trouble hand: Marginal Unsuited Hands

Problem:
You were not winning as much as you should be with Marginal Unsuited Hands (unsuited AJ-A9,KJ,KT,QJ), when we compared your win rate with the win rates of other APT users.

Description:
These hands are marginal, however, you can generally enter for a raise with them, when you are first in from late position (or occasionally middle position, with AJ and AT).

Cost:
$2.00 per hour in a $2/$5 No-Limit game

Recommendation:
Play 50 hands only being dealt Marginal Unsuited Hands. Note that you should almost never be calling a pre-flop raise with these hands.

Trouble hand: Non-Premium A-x Suited

Problem:
You were not winning as much as you should be with Non-Premium A-x Suited (A9s-A2s), when we compared your win rate with the win rates of other APT users.

Description:
Although still speculative hands, these can make the nut flush and top two-pair. The smallest ones can also make a well-disguised wheel (A-2-3-4-5 straight).

Cost:
$2.00 per hour in a $2/$5 No-Limit game

Recommendation:
Play 50 hands only being dealt Non-Premium A-x Suited. When you make a pair of Aces on the flop, play prudently - you might be out-kicked. If instead you pair your other card (9-2), you'll have 5 outs against many other one-pair and even two-pair hands, because of your overcard Ace.

Not Ahead Enough Going to River

Problem:
You had an inferior hand too many times when going to the river

Description:
When the action ended on the turn, and you continued to the river, we kept track of how often you were ahead, adjusted for outs. You were behind too often, which is especially costly as the size of the pot (and therefore bets) gets bigger.

Cost:
$1.75 per hour in a $2/$5 No-Limit game

Recommendation:
Play 50 hands and practice being dealt medium suited connectors from the button. When they connect with the flop, these hands can occasionally call a flop bet in position. But rarely can one continue to the river when facing a bigger bet size and reduced implied odds.

Trouble Position: Middle Position

Problem:
You were not winning as much as you should be from Middle Position (UTG+2,UTG+3,Hijack), when we compared your win rate with the win rates of other APT users.

Description:
Compared to Early Position, you can play a wider range of hands from middle position. With superior hands, you should be raising and isolating early position limpers.

Cost:
$1.00 per hour in a $2/$5 No-Limit game

Recommendation:
Play 100 hands from the Hijack position. With drawing hands, the players before you will determine your action. If there are already limpers, you might limp as well. Otherwise, you should be more likely to open-raise or fold.
